Academics

Our Academic Programs

Carrabassett Valley Academy is dedicated to academic excellence through a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum that fosters critical thinking, confidence, and personal responsibility. While traveling for athletics, students develop academic independence, and on campus, they benefit from face-to-face instruction, immediate feedback, hands-on experiences, and collaborative discussions that enhance understanding. This approach builds essential skills like communication, self-advocacy, and problem-solving, ensuring students are well-prepared for college and life beyond.

MORE THAN A CLASSROOM

At Carrabassett Valley Academy, students develop a passion for learning, guided by faculty who teach not just content but how to think critically and explore new ideas. Even when student-athletes travel for competition, learning doesn't stop. Small class sizes, a dual curriculum that supports remote academic learning, summer class opportunities, and a close connection between faculty and coaches ensures students stay on track and succeed both academically and athletically.

State-of-the-art Academic Center

CVA's state-of-the-art Webber Academic Center provides a modern, comfortable space for academic learning and community engagement. The two-floor building features classrooms with the most up-to-date technologies including well-equipped science labs.

Early College

Students at CVA can get a jump start on their post-secondary academic career by taking classes for college credit while still within the support network of CVA. Early College course curricula and teacher credentials go through a rigorous application process to be considered a 100-level course in the University of Maine system. The credits earned by taking these courses will transfer to any University of Maine campus and will transfer to most other universities and colleges. Students taking an Early College class while in high school, may also be offered direct admission to UMaine colleges.

College Counseling for Every Student's Journey

CVA college counselors are trusted advisers, guiding full-year students through meaningful exercises in self-expression and reflection. This personalized process ensures that each graduate transitions to a destination perfectly aligned with their academic and athletic goals. Counselors work with a diverse range of students - some with well-defined interests and aspirations, and others still in the early stages of exploration. They challenge students with clear goals to think beyond their comfort zones, while helping those still discovering their path to focus on priorities and find clarity as they move forward on their unique journeys.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS PROGRAM

The Academic Success Program at Carrabassett Valley Academy offers personalized academic support as part of the student's regular schedule. With low student-to-teacher ratios, ASP provides individualized assistance in areas like executive functioning, time management, and test preparation. The program focuses on developing personalized goals through collaboration with students, teachers, and parents, ensuring each student receives the support needed to achieve their academic potential.
