  Bio

  Tristy earned her Bachelor's degree from Plymouth State University in Athletic Training and Fitness and Rehabilitation with a minor in Health. She holds a Master's degree in Holistic Health Studies from Georgian Court University and has several years of teaching experience. She is a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer with more than 22 years of experience including serving as Head Athletic Trainer at a NCAA Division II University. She is an American Red Cross instructor and a NAMI(National Alliance on Mental Illness) gatekeeper and gatekeeper trainer.  Tristy joined CVA in 2013 and lives on campus with her husband and two children. She enjoys outdoor activities and family time.

  Sydney Lord 

  Assistant Athletic Trainer

  Bio

  Sydney attended the University of Virginia, where she earned her Master’s degree in Athletic Training, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a Minor in Spanish. She has experience working at the Division I level and at ski academies as an athletic trainer. At CVA, she aims to combine her passion for outdoor sports with her knowledge of sports medicine. In her free time, Sydney enjoys hiking, running, and rock climbing.

  Derek Banat 

  Sports & Mental Performance Coach

  Bio

  Derek, a graduate from the CVA class of 2014, is a passionate and hard-working professional with a background in psychology and exercise science. Since alpine racing at CVA, he has excelled in coaching and research while demonstrating excellent communication skills as student representative speaker for his CVA graduating class and a sports media broadcaster for his undergraduate school St. Lawrence University. With certifications as a Functional Strength Coach and USA Weightlifting coach, Derek is dedicated to helping athletes achieve their best performance. As a member of the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP), he is currently pursuing a master's in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield College. He joins CVA as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Mental Performance Consultant, where he aims to utilize his emotional intelligence and collaborative approach to empower student-athletes in reaching their full potential.

  Amy Martin

  Bio

  Amy has been in the healthcare field for over 25 years. She earned her Associates Degree in Nursing from Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professionals in 2009, joining Carrabassett Valley Academy’s Health and Wellness team as the school nurse in 2016. Before coming to CVA, Amy worked as a nurse at Franklin Memorial Hospital (FMH) in the Day Surgery unit for seven years, and she continues to work per diem at FMH during school vacations. Amy is Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified and a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) trained gatekeeper. Amy lives in Freeman Township with her husband Tim. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with Tim, daughter Makayla, and son Michael ’18 and going camping.

  Tom Pulling 

  School & Team Physician

  Bio

  The school physician is responsible for overseeing the nurse’s standing orders to ensure proper policies and procedures are in place to care for the students. Dr. Pulling, a specialist in orthopedics and sports medicine, also serves as the team physician and signs the standing orders for the athletic trainer to work under his direction. He oversees policies and procedures related to athletic injury to ensure proper care. He is the point person for referral of injury when necessary and oversees all cases related to concussion as a physician trained in concussion management. He is in constant communication with the Athletic Trainer and holds office hours in Farmington and Livermore Falls.

  Liz Stefany 

  Team Massage Therapist

  Bio

  Massage therapy has been shown to place an integral role in facilitating faster recovery from injury by mobilizing tissue, increasing blood flow, decreasing swelling, decreasing adhesions, increasing range of motion, and decreasing pain. Massage therapy is usually offered once a week as needed for injury first-come first-serve basis. This service is paid for by the parent online at Equinox Body Work for $35 per half an hour.
